Vladimir Kagan: A Life of Design Vladimir Kagan, furniture designer, artist and writer since the late 1940’s has had an important influence on Twentieth Century design. |
Checkerboard Film Foundation has begun producing a film on Vladimir Kagan, noted furniture designer, sculptor, and writer, whose long career has had a seminal influence on Twentieth-Century design. The film will highlight Kagan’s creative process, from initial drawings and design ideas for his furniture, through its fabrication.
To date we have interviewed Kagan working in his New York and Nantucket homes as well as in his Clifton factory and New York showroom. We have filmed him in conversation with early and contemporary clients who have collected and lived with his designs during the past sixty years. We will follow him as he discusses design, drives his Model T, and races his Classic sailboat in Nantucket. His love of life and his never-ending curiosity define his approach to a life of design.
Our film fits perfectly within the framework of Checkerboard’s documentaries on the visual arts and design. It will appeal to anyone interested in design, and represent a complementary teaching tool for design schools.
Checkerboard Film Foundation is a non-profit documentary film production company founded in 1979.
