Summary

This film features “Mkusanyiko wa Marafiki” (Assembly of Friends), a large-scale sculpture, by American artist Elyn Zimmerman (b. 1945), that groups six related geometric forms around a granite-rimmed pool. It was commissioned by FAPE in 2002 for the U.S. Embassy in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, and was installed in June 2004.

A gift of the artist, “Assembly of Friends” was produced with funds from FAPE and The David and Lucile Packard Foundation. The individual pieces were quarried in Africa and fabricated by Cold Spring Granite in Minnesota, U.S.A.
